WHY ARE BIG COUNTRIES BAD AT FOOTBALL

Countries like USA, India and China struggle in football while small countries like Iceland, Croatia and Mexico are far better than them. Why is it so? There are many reasons for this.

1 OTHER SPORTS

In India Cricket is much more famous than Football. There are more number of fans for cricket than football in the country. During the Asian Cup India football team captain Sunil Chhetri released a video asking the people to come to the stadium. Other sports such as Badminton and Hockey have more fans than football. But through the emergence of ISL in India, Indian Football started growing. In recent years Football is gaining momentum throughout the country. Thousands of fans is now coming to the stadium. Many young talents started to grow. This is a picture of a football fanbase in India.

In USA Rugby and Baseball is famous than Football. In China Badminton is famous than Football. In India they have two football tiers: ISL and I League. ISL is the first division while I League is the second. There are three tiers in American Football: The top level league is Major League Soccer (MLS), the second level is the USL Championship, and the third level is USL League One.
The highest level of football in China is the Chinese Super League which was founded in 2004. The China League One and China League Two are currently the second and third division.

2 Commercialisation and infrastructure

In India Football is quiet popular.
Specially in the North East, Bengal, Goa. They play the sport while most others just watch it. But these states are poor and lack the infrastructure to nurture talents. With more people taking interest in watching and following European Club and World footballs, the Businessmen see this as an opportunity, ISL came up with Bollywood, Business and Cricket biggies investing in it. It has certainly helped the Indian grassroot talent but we have a mighty task ahead!

3 SIZE OF THE ECONOMY OF THE COUNTRY

Developed nations tend to explore and open new horizons. Like while the developing and under developed countries focus on education, poverty, etc, the developed nations can invest into improving holistically in the fields of art, sports, etc. Take USA for example, biggest economy and it usually has the highest medals tally in the Olympics . Have a look at the medals tally of Rio Olympics 2016 and notice the top 10 countries, almost all the countries are developed nations and the more powerful the economy of the country, more medals it has under its belt.

The top 3 positions in the table is occupied by United States, Great Britain and China. Great Britain consists of four countries: England,Scotland,Wales and Northern Ireland. In these top three spots England only managed to win the World Cup.

Pre mier League could return by mid-June in 'best-case scenario' Premier League clubs have discussed resuming the season on the weekend of 13-14 June after Uefa wrote to domestic associations stating a desire they should finish their competitions by 31 July to leave August clear for the completion of the Champions League and Europa League.
